Voidomatis ~ The cleanest river in Europe

Voidomatis is a river in the prefecture of Ioannina, tributary of Aoos. The river has a total length of 15 km. Voidomatis characterized as one of the cleanest rivers in Europe,since it does not confront any pollution problems.

The river crosses one of the most beautiful locations of Greece, which has been declared a national park since 1973, and the Vikos gorge consists one of the natural beauty monument.

Along Voidomatis there are some of the most beautiful arched, Epirus bridges. The most famous is the bridge Kleidonia, located at the exit of the gorge of Vikos .

Voidomatis River is suitable for various river sports such as kayaking and rafting. The water temperature is very low even in the summer months.

The most picturesque village of the area and one of the most beautiful place of Zagoria is Papigo (altitude: 980 meters), known as a settlement since the 14th century.

It is built at the foothill of Astraka and consists of two "neighborhoods", the Big and Small Papigo (4 km. Distance from each other).

In Papigo you may wander in the picturesque streets with the white houses and the old fountains.

The path you can follow to reach the Big and Small Papigo, passes through the village Aristi, crosses the river Voidomatis and finally leads to these famous villages.
